Muge shell midden

Archaeological illustration

Exhibited in 2023

Client: ICArEHB

This 2 meter wide illustration was tailor-made to fit two cabinets exhibiting objects from the people of the Neolithic age. In particular, this exhibition focuses on the shell middens of the Muge region, in the wetlands of the Tejo. These mounds of seashells offer many archaeological insights into the people of the Neolithic period that inhabited the region.

Muge is also home to one of the first proven instances of a domesticated dog living among people - which I included in the illustration as an Easter egg. I wonder if it had a name?
